One of the themes that Sight Beyond the Sun explores is the concept of escaping cages. The heroine, Kinsley Morales, is trapped in a physical cage after being abducted by aliens. The cage is luxurious, with every comfort and amenity she might need, if only she hadn’t been taken against her will. Although Kinsley resents the aliens who abducted her, she has more in common with them than she might think. The hero, Raveno Hoviir, is trapped in the metaphorical cage of his father’s tyrannical rule. He abducted her while working undercover, plotting against his father in the hopes of liberating his planet. One of my favorite parts of writing their love story was building the trust between them and watching them work together to fight for their freedom.
