Escaping Cages

So much of Sight Beyond the Sun explores the theme of escaping cages—physical, personal, familial, societal—that it was important to me that details of the story’s setting reflect that as well. The planet Havar – Raveno’s home – is a subterranean civilization ruled by a military dictator and overrun by carnivorous plants that consume and preserve people within their stems. The only thing more fun than crafting those layers was unveiling the secrets those cages were hiding.
