“His lips were warm and soft, steady and sweet as they moved. All those clipped looks and denied feelings erupted between them, and Phin slid her hand from his cheek to the back of his neck, thinking: More. He cupped her jaw with his palm and hooked his elbow around her waist, urging her closer. She fisted his shirt in her hand. His tongue swiped between the seam of her lips. She licked him back and bit that bottom lip. Yes. His magic jolted through her like lightning, similar to his protective shield, yet not. Instead of tingling, it scalded. Instead of protecting, it invaded. Sizzling. Heady. Powerful, yet new. Fragile. It wasn’t his magic. It was their magic.”
